Summer School in Bakuriani, Georgia
During 3-9 September 2018, Azerbaijan Red Crescent (AzRC) volunteers participated in the Summer School organised by Georgia Red Cross Society (GRCS) in Bakuriani, Georgia. The Summer School was organized within the “Building Safe and Resilient Communities” programme with funding from the Austrian Development Cooperation and Austrian Red Cross. Young volunteers from different regions of Georgia and a delegation from Azerbaijan composed of eight people participated in the Summer Camp.
The first day of the Summer School was dedicated to introducing participants to each other. The second day included presentations on activities of GRCS and AzRC as well as presentations on the culture of Georgian and Azerbaijani people. An employee of the AzRC, Aygun Askerzadeh, and a volunteer of Sumgayit AzRC city branch, Arzu Mustafazadeh, made presentations on activities of the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society. A volunteer of Sumgayit AzRC city branch, Nijat Huseinov, made a presentation on the culture and history of Azerbaijan. Before the presentations a hymn of a state of Azerbaijan was sounded. After that the participants of the Summer School were informed about national holidays in Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani cookery, music, clothing and historical monuments in Azerbaijan. On the other days of the Summer School trainings on “Leadership”, “Management of emotions”, “First Aid”, “Natural disasters and their management”, “Psychosocial support” were organised for participants. During simulation trainings the participants practiced in erecting camps and demonstrated their skills in first aid. All presentations were made in English language.
During a one day tour the participants of the Summer School visited Vardzia and Rabati historical towers in Georgia and received information on history of these towers.
On the last day of the Summer School a closing ceremony was held. Georgia Red Cross Society – organiser of the Summer School – presented memorable gifts to all participants. At the end of the closing ceremony the participants of the Summer School took memorable pictures.
