Georgia Red Cross (GRCS) Ambrolauri Community Volunteers are one of the strongest and reliable support teams for the local Fire and Rescue brigades. Jointly they are conducting practical and theoretical trainings for the Commmunity Volunteer Team, so they already know what to do and how to be safe during disaster response activities in their community.
Throughout February-March 2015, more than 35 forest fires were reported in Ambrolauri Municipality villages, which were dangerous for the local population as well as impacting livelihoods.
GRCS volunteers responded in coordination and cooperation with the Fire and Rescue brigades in coping with the fires. In most cases it was impossible to reach the forest fire areas with the fire engine and other cars, so they were using special equipment provided by GRCS to extuingish the fire.
Rescue Brigade representatives are grateful to the GRCS and Red Cross Community Volunteers for their support in dealing with different disasters in Racha-lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti Region.
